The Westfield at Bents Green Hub provides an Autism specific environment within the mainstream setting of Westfield School. Students at the Westfield Hub are led and supported by staff skilled in working with children with Autism and speech, language and communication difficulties. Many of our students also have support to reduce anxieties linked to their conditions in order to enable them to overcome barriers and reach for life long success.
All students at the Westfield hub have personalised timetables enabling them to build on their skills and strengths in a nurturing environment. As well as opportunities to engage in mainstream lessons where appropriate, students have access to the excellent facilities available through the mainstream school, such as the wonderful swimming pool and climbing wall.
Students’ timetables are developed in collaboration between school, home and the students themselves and access into mainstream lessons is supported by hub staff as appropriate to each individual child.
All students have access to a curriculum which helps to prepare them for their futures and meet their desired outcomes. As well as working towards academic success students are supported to develop friendships, participate in social and enrichment activities and learn skills for adulthood, such as developing independent travel skills, learning how to keep themselves safe and develop skills needed for eventual independent living.
For the right students the Bents Green at Westfield hub offers the best of both worlds; an ASD appropriate environment together with opportunities to benefit both socially and academically by the facilities, curriculum and curriculum expertise offered by a mainstream school.
