Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club – Ponds Forge

The Sheffield Smashers Boccia Club has been running since November 2011. Boccia is a paralympic sport, a ball and target game similar in style to crown green bowling, though participants are seated. This makes the sport suitable for people with a variety of disabilities, including learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and wheelchair users.

The club has over 40 members and regularly have around 20 members per week attending the sessions. Participants have a wide range of disabilities, including autism, hearing, visual and physical impairments and range in age from 5 years to over 40.

Sheffield Smashers are a voluntary club, who are affiliated with Special Olympics South Yorkshire partnership and also have close links with another Boccia club in Sheffield – Boccia Sheffield. In 2016, the club received funding from the National Lottery to help to grow the club. We are offering a have a go session on Thursday 21 September from 5:45 to 7:15.
