Y7-Y11 Curriculum
The Y7-Y11 curriculum at Bents Green is delivered through multiple pathways across our 4 sites. The support offered through each pathway is the vehicle that enables students to reach their full potential.
Gleadless Curriculum - Bents Green School
Our Gleadless curriculum is based on the National Curriculum; it is broad, balanced, engaging and, more importantly, relevant to our students’ needs and interests.
Our Gleadless curriculum is divided into 2 distinct pathways as illustrated below.
Pathway 1 - Gleadless
Pathway 1 at Gleadless
While these students engage with the national curriculum, they also focus on consolidating and developing foundational skills acquired during their primary education. Pathway 1 provides a balanced approach that combines academic rigour with essential life skills and communication support. This rigorous academic framework enables students to achieve a variety of formal qualifications, including GCSEs in English Language, Maths, and Biology, as well as Entry Level qualifications in English, Maths, Science, Personal Development, and Life Skills. We firmly believe that preparing our students for adulthood is crucial in equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully transition to the next stage of their learning.

Ringinglow Curriculum - Bents Green School
Our Ringinglow curriculum is student-led. It is divided into 4 distinct pathways as illustrated below.
Engagement Pathway - Ringinglow
Our engagement pathway follows an informal curriculum, with a 5-year rolling cycle of engaging themes and topics to hook students into the learning, and provide opportunities to develop a range of skills, with communication and independence skills prioritised throughout. This is delivered flexibly to suit the students' needs and is highly personalised. Students access relevant accreditation options, where this is appropriate, such as AQA unit awards and ASDAN LifeSkills challenges. If suitable, other accreditation options such as Entry Level Maths are made available.
Independence Pathway - Ringinglow
Our independence pathway follows topic-based and cross-curricular learning through a 5-year rolling cycle of engaging themes. These are broken down into more distinct learning areas, delivered flexibly in a semiformal model to suit the engagement styles of the students in each class. Students have the opportunity to gain accreditation in a range of areas, accessing Entry Level maths where appropriate, plus ASDAN Lifeskills Challenges and AQA Unit Awards.
Aspire Pathway - Ringinglow
Students in the Aspire pathway access the curriculum that is delivered at Gleadless, differentiated to meet their learning needs as required. This is a more formal curriculum model, accessing the national curriculum subjects, with opportunities to gain more formal accreditations.
Re-Engagement Pathway - Ringinglow
Our re-engagement pathway is completely personalised to each student on it. Students can access activities and opportunities from any pathway, or from elsewhere, and will have a highly personalised timetable. Students may access alternative provisions or spend a higher proportion of time out in the community, developing their communication and independence skills. Students may dip in and out of different pathways and learning opportunities as their needs and engagement requires. Students in this pathway are supported on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis and generally have their own learning space.
